Royal Brompton Hospital

This is a hospital for patients with chronic and acute heart and lung conditions. The catchment area is worldwide and most patients are long term or recurrent admissions. The school works on two wards, Rose and Foulis.

Rose Ward (4-16 year olds)
There is one school room for all key stages next to Rose Ward. Children are taught in the classroom, but many are in isolation and are taught in their cubicles. We have developed a video conferencing solution to enable pupils in isolation to conference with the school classroom. If pupils are in the Paediatric High Dependency or Intensive Care teachers will ensure they have access to music, stories and, if applicable, other curriculum areas. The teaching team consists of two primary and one secondary teacher, plus a learning assistant and specialist teachers in music, art and information technology. There is an educational outing each Thursday afternoon.

Foulis Ward(17+)
Post 16 education is facilitated on Foulis Ward, enabling access to further and higher education courses, Information Technology and creative arts. Liaison with schools, colleges and careers advice plays a central role in this service. A weekly outing takes place on a Tuesday afternoon.
