Chelsea Children's Hospital School NewsCongratulations to the students who had their art work in the Brompton Staff and Patient Art Competition, three of our students GCSE work was exhibited, Lionel, Issy and Louise. We were delighted when Louise and Issy won first and third prize - a fantastic achievement - well done to you all and keep up the magnificent effort. Louise has created two cards for Christmas, an angel in trainers and father Christmas listening to music - thanks to Louise - they are selling like hot cakes 10 for £2.99 so get your order in quickly.Christingle services were held at Chelsea and Westminster Chapel and Rose Ward at the Brompton - The Mayor of Kensington and Chelsea joined us for the services as did many staff, volunteers, friends of the hospital school, governors and parents and of course students from all sites. All our students had an oppportunity to show us the paintings, stories and songs that they had written for Christmas. Including a composition written with the students and the London Symphony orchestra called 'There is no snow at Christmas' Students from Servite School had learnt to sing and sign 'Mary's Boy Child' - thanks to them and Linda for a performance that was enjoyed by all - and made everyone think about the importance of communication well done to all the congregation who all worked very hard to learn Makaton (sign language)for the first time. Nickie and Caleb introduced the Australian Christmas Carol - which needed a bit of translation and was good fun and lively with lots of excuse for shouting OY! We are delighted to have these two teachers from Australia who are spending their first Christmas in London - watching and hoping for snow - thanks so much to both of them for all the hard work they have put into the music at the Christmas service - Thank you to all our staff and students for the creativity they have put into making the environment of the hospitals so attractive - Shaun our artist in residence is now working at St. Mary's, Chelsea and Westminster and the Royal Brompton and the projects have been many and various - an Anthony Gormley sculpture Park, Narnia, Islands and sculpture. Catherine our mosaic artist has completed a second project making individual mosaics with students at Collingham and they are becoming very proficient and talents. Congratulations to Sam who is making the 'biggest pot in the world' a very challenging project. Welcome to St. Mary's Hospital where we are spending our first Christmas - and to all the students there - Many thanks to the League of St. Nicholas who have funded all our Christmas activities - These have included Iroko, African Dance, Splatts Circus Skills, an excellent production of Aladdin at Richmond Theatre and many visits from Museums, galleries and Orchestras. Thank you to all our volunteers who have supported us throughout the year - welcome to Andy, who is going to work on Rose Ward a few days a week, to Sophie a ballet dancer who is running a lu chtime dance class once a week and to Jane who who is taking a swimming group one Lunchtime a week. Warren who has also been press ganged into being Chair of Governors - We are delighted that we now have funds to run an after school club and Youth club at Chelsea & Westminster and Royal Brompton four nights a week and we are working on the fifth - thanks so much for the hard work Laura, Frederic and Tim have put into evening activities. We were delighted to have a visit from our teaching colleagues in Lithuania - our Comenius project entails linking with hospital schools in Norway, Holland and Lithuania and our project this year is soundscapes and animation -do look at the evidence on the web site. An opportunity for you to tell us what you think of us -there is an evaluation form on the web site and a message board - it is wonderful when we hear news of past students - so many of you have climbed huge mountains and achieved so greatly - do let us know -We wish you success in the New Year. Janette We had a visit from the 'Red Devils' the army parachute team - the children were very excited to meet them and we were all intrigued with the DVD of parachute jumping in tandem with the Red Devils - We now have ten members of staff (and one student) who have signed up for a parachute jump in May 2006 - they are looking for sponsors so please let us know if you are interested in supporting a member of the team jumping. For Martin our ICT Manager and Marie Senior Teacher at The Royal Brompton Hospital as this is our first Christmas with their new babies - So Welcome to Henry and Christine and we hope you all have a wonderful Christmas - and look forward to seeing Marie in the New Year.
