Chelsea Children's Hospital School NewsI would like to thank all staff and students who were involved in the Spring service, it was a very moving as well as being fun, some of you kindly planted bulbs for children who were unable to plant their own - others tried very hard to learn to sign - and all joined in the group poem - congratulations to the musicians who are always an important part of our service and to the Chaplain for helping us to make this a special occasion. We were delighted to see the Deputy Mayor and Councillors as well as governors, parents and friends of the Hospital School. This is a challenging time for all our GCSE students and we are delighted to see you all working so hard to achieve your goals - we intend to have a Citizenship Arts week after the exams are finished and will arrange a night out for all our year 10, 11 - and AS level students -let us hear where you would like to go. We wish all our students in the hospital, the community and in their home schools lots of good wishes for the next few weeks. I am holding my breath with excitement as on the 24th May 25 students, members of staff and friends of CCHS will be completing a parachute jump with the Red Devils - this apparently is as easy as pie - afterwards we will be celebrating at the Mayfair Arts Club - as the manager is also jumping - Many thanks to all of you who have sponsored the jump and to the Red Devils who have been very supportive - I can't wait! We were delighted to have been invited to Lithuania to visit the hospital schools there - and to plan a conference for our other Comenius colleagues from Norway and Holland - we took a lap top and an animation camera- and look forward to seeing the students work in June - all children in hospital are kept up with their studies with individual tutors on the core subjects - we had the most wonderful hospitality in Vilnius and also heard the loveliest singing - congratulations to Martin who was able to join in by playing the accordion which just happened to appear. I am at present helping to organise an international conference on hospital education in November this year and was invited to visit hospital schools in New Zealand to see how they managed to teach children who were not able to attend school due to medical conditions - this is obviously quite complicated as there is a small population over a wide area - their solution is on line learning and they are also exploring the use of video conferencing - we will be having a reception at the Houses of Parliament and we are looking for a celebrity guest speaker - do you know anyone who is famous and a good speaker? Our ICT project is well under way now and we hope to have video conferencing up and running at all sites by September this year - also to have our own school intranet - many thanks to James and Martin who have worked so hard with Imperial College to enable this happen and to Shai and Colin from WCIT (Worshipful Company of Information Technologists) who have supported us both financially and intellectually. We are hoping that this technology will alleviate the sense of isolation felt by the CF patients at the Brompton Hospital. Please let us have your comments about the web site and please fill in the questionnaire we are always delighted to hear from you. Best wishes and Good Luck Janette
