At Chelsea Children’s Hospital School we teach a large number of children with a very wide variety of Special Educational needs. On every site the population and kind of special need differs greatly according to the medical needs of each child. As our policy states we are committed to meeting the individual needs of pupils with SEN in an inclusive, creative and child centred way. Children learn in their Key Stage groups but also have much needed 1:1 support and individual sessions. We work closely with children’s home schools and liaise directly with home school staff to inform our IEP’s and make sure that we plan appropriately for each child. We currently use the Equals Curriculum for pupils with SEN and ‘P’ levels to assess their needs and progress. Staff are trained in using Makaton through our in house trainer and using PECS.
