Studying R.E. offers children & young people the opportunity to develop both as individuals and as part of society, by reflecting on their own and others experiences, attitudes, beliefs and religious practices. Our R.E. programme looks at major world religions. We include outings to a variety of religious sites, mosques temples and churches and receive visits from religious leaders.
There is regular access to Christian ceremonies and a close involvement with the Hospital Chaplins and local community religious leaders. In a secular non-denominational society the study of RE helps to make cross-curricular links with History, Geography, English and the Sciences. It helps pupils to make sense of their own and other people’s identity. It enables pupils to understand how choices children and adults make are often linked with and influenced by religious and moral beliefs – what people eat, wear or believe. For parents who wish to withdraw children from R.E. studies we provide an alternative curricular activity. Each hospital has a quiet place, for prayer and meditation for both parents and children. We respect individual identity in its diversity & celebrate a variety of religious festivals throughout the year.
