vacancy.gifWe have had many enquiries about possible teaching, learning assistant and administrative posts in hospital education. Here are answers to some of the most asked questions:

How many hospital schools are there?
There are 26 hospital schools in the U.K. and many hospital education teaching services.

Do you need any special qualifications or experience?
As a teacher is is essential to have a broad curriculum knowledge and to be confident teaching a wide age range. All staff require an understanding of special needs and an ability to be flexible.

Do you have volunteers?
We have some excellent volunteers, some of whom have worked with us for many years and one who is now a teacher at the Royal Brompton Hospital.

Are you open throughout the year?
Clearly children in hospital do not fall neatly into term time only, so as well as the school curriculum being delivered on a termly basis, we also have an arts programme during the holidays. This is run by our artist in residence and our youth worker.

Do you have evening sessions?
At the Royal Brompton Hospital we run a youth club for children age 11+ two evenings a week. At Collingham Gardens we run literacy club, cyber club and a music workshop.

How can I find out more about vacancies?
We advertise in Tuesday's education Guardian, however we have a very stable and long serving staff so vacancies are rare. We also post vacancies on our web site.

Is it worth sending my CV for future posts?
We do keep a file for people who are interested in being considered for a post in the future.
