africanhomes 2

Two primary students from the Brompton have created their own African homes inspired by the artist Esther Mahlangu who used geometric patterns.

They spent time learning about the Ndebele tribe and liked finding out that people originally painted the patterns on their homes as a way of communicating with other members of the tribe. These messages couldn't be understood by outsiders who thought the patterns were used just for decoration. The children used geometric patterns and bright colours in their designs before rolling them to make a cylindrical shaped hut.
