Pasta workshop with the Mammas
The students at CCC were visited by Mamma Sara and Mamma Ida from La Mia Mamma restaurant this week. Some of the students have been learning about the origin of pasta and how pasta varies in different regions of Italy recently in our cooking sessions, so it was great to have a chance to make some pasta from Silicy!
Mamma Sara and Mamma Ida told us that we would be making a pasta recipe from Silicy which is used in their restaurants. The Mammas demonstrated how to make a pasta dough from durum flour and water and then showed us how to make pasta spirals using a butter board. The session was extremely fun, with staff and students decorated in flour during the dough making! Everyone noticed how relaxing it was to make the pasta shapes and the students worked incredibly hard making their pasta spirals which they were able to take home to cook.
The Mammas treated us with amazing margarita pizza and by cooking some pasta in a delicious tomato, garlic and basil sauce. It was safe to say the workshop was a popular hit with everyone at CCC and we hope to welcome them back again soon. Thank you to the Mammas for their generosity and kindness, as well as leading a fun-filled workshop. A brilliant way to round off the half term!
